why Spray foam
metal buildings and barns in amarillo, texas
barns and metal buildings
We do not recommend using spray foam in residential homes. Research shows that open-cell spray foam poses risks in colder climates. As cold roof sheathing is contacted by indoor motisure through the foam, the spray foam traps the moisture against the roof, which results in eventual decay. For this reason, Amarillo insulation will only do spray foam in metal buildings and barns as most of these types of structures are made with metal, and not wood or roofign matieral.
Open Cell vs closed cell
There are two different types of spray foam options available: closed-cell polyurethane and open-cell polyurethane, both with different R-values. The R-value is the material’s capacity to insulate and resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation. Open cell has a lesser R-value than closed cell. A typical closed-cell spray foam will have more than 6.0 pounds per inch, whereas an open-cell spray foam will have the range of 3.6 to 3.8 pounds per inch. Open-cell will expand as soon as it’s applied, making it the perfect foam for hard to reach areas.
Replaced attic insulation in attic. Crew worked quickly and efficiently. Got the R factor to 38. This has made a significant difference in the interior of the house! It stays cleaner and the air seems fresher. I’m anxious for the next utility bill to see what difference is post-new insulation!
I have noticed a significant improvement in my home. Very professional, on time, worked nonstop except for a lunch break the first day (removing all old insulation- it was a MESS!). Worked nonstop the 2nd day – blowing in the insulation. I don’t hesitate to recommend to anyone and everyone.
We recently had additional insulation added in our attic space. There was a noticeable difference. The installers arrived on time and completed the project within a couple of hours. I recommend Milex to everyone considering a new house or additional protection in their home.
frequently asked questions
Does spray foam keep mice out
In addition to being completely rodent proof due to its airtight characteristics, spray foam insulation is also non-repellent as it does not create a breeding ground for rodents, nor does it act as a source of food for rodents. Spray foam will remain unpenetrable for years, and your barn will not be a very desirable place for our rodent friends. This makes spray foam insulation the number one choice for mice or rat proofing your building.
Does spray foam provide structural support
With the application of a spray foam roofing system, a building’s strength can be increased, as well as its useful life expectancy, with a lifespan that can exceed 30 years. Due to the fact that spray foam conforms to the surface of the roof to which it is applied, it forms a solid bond to protect it from the elements. Spray foam gives a structure’s walls a higher racking strength, which is the ability to maintain its form when under harsh conditions.
does spray foam devalue your house
Spray Foam insulation was originally purposed to insulate metal builgings. Now, people are putting the product in their homes. We are finding that residential homes are being devalued, and mortgage lenders are concerned that cowboy traders are not installing the product correctly. Spray foam jobs need to be strategically planned out. When people install the product without considering the many varibles that go into doing the job properly, it can have a detrimental impact on the home, and the roof specifically.
